inauguration tells NoVA to go f**k itself
but first: JFGI might not be the way to go, if you’re concerned about your carbon footprint: two google searches use as much energy as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea.
and now: the teased gripe.
most bridges into DC from NoVA will be closed to personal vehicular traffic on january 20.
chain bridge might be open, but the resultant overflow from the other closed bridges will likely put the kibbosh on any meaningful ingress to DC. most likely the best way to go would be on the beltway, over the american legion bridge, and then take, what, river road into DC?
there’s also white’s ferry. i’m almost curious enough to try that crossing.
barring that, mass transit will be functioning, but if you’re at an inner station (like ballston, or – heaven forfend – rosslyn), good luck cramming into a metro car. buses? perhaps – although my favorite, the 3Y, doesn’t appear to be running that day. or maybe it is; i can’t get onto metro’s website to check it out. it figures – the week before inauguration, and metro’s website is down.
i suppose i will walk. or perhaps just hang out on key bridge with a super telephoto (where can i get this one?) and watch the history unfold.

I think if I lived near an inner station, I’d take a train in the opposite direction, then just stay on for the ride back in. Of course, I live 5 blocks from the Capitol, so I have nothing to worry about.
